Communion
Children are invited and encouraged to partake in the sacrament of Holy Communion.
Over the course of their years in Sunday School, Children’s Worship, and Confirmation, our children learn of the many levels of meaning and symbolism of the sacrament of Holy Communion.
“All who intend to lead a Christian life, and their children, are invited to receive the bread and cup. We have no tradition of refusing any who present themselves desiring to receive.” The United Methodist Book of Worship, pg. 29.
“Invitation to partake of Holy Communion offers an evangelical opportunity to bring people into a fuller living relationship with the body of Christ. As a means of God’s unmerited grace, Holy Baptism and Holy Communion are to be seen not as barriers but as pathways.” This Holy Mystery: A United Methodist Understanding of Holy Communion, p.20
Baptism
The pastoral staff is available to meet with parents to discuss this important step in the life of your child. We realize that members of West End United Methodist Church come from a variety of faith traditions and may have questions regarding the practice of infant baptism.
The tradition of the United Methodist Church is to encourage the baptism of infants and young children so that they may be fully incorporated into the life of the gathered community of faith, the Body of Christ in this place.
To schedule a baptism, please call Cindy Moore (321-8500, ext. 8822)
Baptisms are scheduled to occur during either of the Sunday morning worship services (8:45 and 11:00 am), with the exception of Communion Sundays and Easter. There may be other Sundays throughout the year when the scheduling of a baptism may be discouraged due to previously planned liturgical events. When the baptism is scheduled, the officiating pastor will meet with the family to discuss the specifics of the service.
