MARCH 11 – Douglas Murray, organ
Douglas Murray, a native North Carolinian, studied organ at Lenoir Rhyne College and Pfeiffer College in North Carolina. His principal teachers have included Stanley Scheer and Virginia Vance. He has studied improvisation with William Porter, Jeff Brillhart and Gerre Hancock and has also had the privilege of coaching with Fenner Douglass, Peter Fyfe and Wilma Jensen. Since 2001, Dr. Murray has been principal organist at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. He is also a Professor of English at Belmont University, where he has taught since 1987. Dr. Murray’s program will include music of Marcel Dupré and American composer Leo Sowerby.
