This is the first in a series of Sundays focused on the Gospel of Mark. This story from Mark 7 exposes the humanity of Jesus as he tries to get away from all the pressure he has been under. Yet, even as he attempts to find refuge in an out-of-the-way region, he is approached by a woman who asks that he cast an unclean spirit out of her daughter. His initial reaction is to decline, but she calls him, even Jesus, to task. In the face of Jesus’ humanity, how can we, as fallible humans, ever hope for perfection?
