The Song of the Prophet Mary

It is the morning of Christmas Eve, and the birth has not yet occurred. Today we focus on the announcement to Mary by the angel and her reaction, which is to break into song, and not just any song, but one that speaks to God’s intervention into history, much as the prophets do. Singing has always been a fundamental act of the faithful, and Luke’s story around the birth of Jesus makes full use of song. (West End had only one service this Christmas Eve Morning, with others coming late in the afternoon and at night.)
