West End United Methodist Church

The Prayer Shawl Ministry began at a Women’s conference at Hartford Seminary. People began knitting “healing shawls” for women who were getting treatment for breast cancer. Others began to knit shawls for new mothers. The ministry expanded to include all who were ill. Today, these wonder gifts of love are distributed to people throughout the country.

Since 2005, the women of West End have been providing prayer shawls to members of the church and others. Some knitters meet together as they knit; others work individually at home on a shawl. Knit with prayer and love, the shawls are an outward sign of the love of Jesus. Recipients of the shawls, both male and female, have been deeply moved by the gift which literally wraps them in love.
