Speakers:Matthew Charlton

In this session, “Hope and Racial Justice,” Matt Charlton introduces guest, Cecilia Olusola Tribble, a cultural equity coach and counselor.  Tribble begins the session with a definition of race and a historical view and a perspective on “whiteness” as a social construct that is normal, standard, good, human, always citizen, always belonging.  She looks at various perspectives, including internalized racism, interpersonal, institutional, systemic, and ideological racism.  Matthew W. Charlton is an ordained elder in the Tennessee Conference, teaching at Belmont University and Vanderbilt Divinity School, but currently at Garrett Evangelical Seminary.  He holds Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Religion degrees from Vanderbilt and a PhD in contemporary theology from Garrett Evangelical Seminary.
