Read and Pray as We Remember
THE MARKS OF DISCIPLESHIP

Over the next two months, our worship services and much of our group devotion time will be spent reading and pondering the words of the Gospel of Mark. Our sermon series, The Marks of Discipleship, will run from September 26 – November 21 bringing us all the way to the Advent season. While our worship will focus on the characteristics of discipleship found in Chapters 9-12, we invite you during this season to read the entire Gospel of Mark.

Reading Scripture is itself a mark of discipleship, whereby the Spirit-inspired words bring us into relationship with the God known in Jesus Christ. You may use this simple reading guide to assist you. It is designed so you may read one section per week at your own pace (weekly scope) or daily beginning on Sunday, October 3. Take your time as you read. Stop and reflect on the passage you have read, and perhaps read it a second time. Then spend time considering the following questions:

  • How might it have felt to be present in the moments described? What might the person(s) involved have seen, heard, smelled, tasted, and felt? What might they have been thinking?

  • How is this text speaking to me today? To my community? To my world?

  • What does this text say about being a disciple and follower of the way of Jesus Christ?
