West End United Methodist Church

The foundation of our Wesleyan heritage is the fusion of spiritual formation and social witness.  We believe spiritual life with God leads us to engage in the political process with a vision and commitment to our neighbor’s flourishing.  The resources and events on this page seek to guide our discernment, voting participation, and lives of prayer and worship during the weeks surrounding the 2024 General Election.

  • 2024 General Conference Approved “Revised Social Principles -  While not church law, the Revised Social Principles aim to serve as a guide for what United Methodists agree are the most relevant social concerns throughout the world today and the church’s position on those issues.  Find them here

Ways To Pray Together:

  • WEUMC Morning Prayer Podcast for November 4-6 -  West End UMC lay and clergy voices join together to offer a morning prayer podcast for the mornings of November 4-6. The liturgy generally follows the  “Order for Morning Praise and Prayer”.  You can Listen Here
  • Election Day Virtual Prayer Vigil -  Elections can bring on anxieties, feelings of hope or helplessness, and resolve. West End is providing a virtual space for prayer during Election Day for you to “come and find the quiet center”.  From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., we invite you to join us online for prayer at westendumc.org/livestream or on our Facebook page or YouTube Channel. We will pray on the hour for a few minutes in various styles of prayer. Our chat will be open for offering your own prayers or requesting prayer. We are cosponsoring this space with the Tennessee Western Kentucky Conference Church and Society committee so members of our own staff will be joined by members of this committee
  • Election Day Open Sanctuary from 5:30-8 pm -  The Sanctuary will be open for individual prayer, silence, and reflection from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5th.
  • First Wednesday + A Service of Prayer and Holy Communion -  On Wednesday, November 6, we will have our First Wednesday dinner in McWhitter Hall from 5:15 to 6 p.m. We will host a service of guided prayer, Scripture reading, and Holy Communion in the Sanctuary from 6:15 to 7 p.m.   RSVP here for dinner and program!
