"The Cooperative Commonwealth of God" with Rev. Dr. Joerg Rieger // Sunday Morning Series
Dr. Rieger, is Distinguished Professor of Theology at Vanderbilt University and Divinity School, the Cal Turner Chancellor’s Chair of Wesleyan Studies, and Founding Director of the Wendland-Cook Program in Religion and Justice. Dr. Rieger has graciously offered to come lead a 3-week Sunday morning series following the Labor Day weekend on September 11-25.
His series will be entitled “The Cooperative Commonwealth of God” He describes the class as follows: “Jesus preached the kingdom of God, and what came was the church.” This is how one prominent scholar summarized what he felt was a letdown. In this series, we will examine the relation of the church and the kingdom of God. Might there be more appropriate language than talking about kingdoms? What difference, if any, can the church make in the world of the twenty-first century?
