Centering Your Week, Week 3: This is a Wednesday evening series that rotates each month through WORD (scriptures for the month), WISDOM (Rev. Baxter interviews a guest), WONDER (exploring spiritual practices), and WAY (the way we live out our faith, ministries of compassion and care). Tonight’s session is WONDER, and Alan Whitley speaks on the topic of Cultivating a Life of Prayer. Whitley has an MSSW and is a candidate for becoming a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. Whitley is going to introduce us to the service and experience of vespers, the evening prayer service. He begins by saying he tries to keep his spiritual practices simple and central in spite of a lot of things happening in his daily life. As the pandemic began he began to set aside 15 to 20 minutes a day for vespers, doing so online to lead others in remembering how much they are loved by God. In this Wednesday session he gives a history and description of vespers, and then he leads everyone through a vespers service.
