Alive: Re-engaging Theologies of Hope, Session 3: Hope and the Future of the Church

Speakers:Matthew Charlton

In this session, “Hope and the Future of the Church,” Matt Charlton introduces guest, Alan Whitley, a social worker with experience in counseling people in substance abuse and now a candidate for becoming a Deacon in the UMC.  The format is questions posed by each to the other.  Whitley’s personal story/journey is an instructional map for hope.  Matthew W. Charlton is an ordained elder in the Tennessee Conference, teaching at Belmont University and Vanderbilt Divinity School, but currently at Garrett Evangelical Seminary.  He holds Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Religion degrees from Vanderbilt and a PhD in contemporary theology from Garrett Evangelical Seminary.
