Von Unruh is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and has long been a mainstay of the programs, societies and commissions in the Tennessee conference, as well as the Southeastern Jurisdiction, relating to history. He is past archivist, past editor of the Historical Society’s journal, and a long friend of past historian, John Abernathy Smith.
